About this recipe
Mozzarella and tomato toasted sandwiches are a warm breakfast made with crisp bread, mild mozzarella, juicy tomato, and basil. As the sandwiches heat, the mozzarella softens and holds the slices together, while the tomato adds freshness and gentle acidity. Slice the tomato thinly and avoid overfilling the sandwiches so the bread can brown and the center heats through. Cook them in a sandwich press, in a skillet, or in the oven. Serve as soon as they are cut, before the warm cheese and tomato juices soften the bread.
Ingredients
Servings: 2
4 slices sandwich bread
80 g mozzarella
1 tomato
a few basil leaves
Steps
Slice the tomato and mozzarella, and pat the basil leaves dry.
Assemble two sandwiches: arrange the mozzarella, tomato, and basil on two bread slices, then cover with the remaining slices.
Toast the sandwiches for 3–5 minutes, until the bread is golden and the filling is heated through.
Cut the sandwiches in half and serve immediately.
