About this recipe
Tuna pasta bake is a simple meal of penne, tuna packed in water, tomato passata, onion, and grated cheese. Tomato passata forms the tomato base, tuna gives the dish a more pronounced flavor, and the cheese melts and browns on top, bringing everything together. Penne holds the sauce well, so the casserole is not dry after baking. It works well when you want a filling tuna pasta bake made with readily available ingredients.
Ingredients
Servings: 4
250 g penne pasta
1 can tuna packed in water
300 ml tomato passata
80 g grated mild semi-hard cheese
1 onion
1 tablespoon olive oil
Steps
Preheat a conventional oven (no fan) to 190°C and position a rack in the middle. Cook the pasta for 6–8 minutes so it remains clearly al dente, then drain.
Heat the olive oil in a skillet over medium heat and cook the finely chopped onion for 4–5 minutes. Pour in the tomato passata and cook for 5 minutes, then remove from the heat and gently fold in the thoroughly drained tuna.
Combine the penne with the sauce and transfer to an ovenproof dish.
Sprinkle with the cheese and bake for 15–20 minutes, until the cheese has melted and lightly browned and the sauce is bubbling around the edges.
Let stand for 5 minutes and serve.
