About this recipe
Unstuffed gołąbki are a simplified version of classic cabbage rolls, without separately wrapping the filling in cabbage leaves. Ground pork and beef, chopped white cabbage, rice, and onion make a filling bake, while tomato passata creates a simple tomato sauce. Finely chop the cabbage so it softens more quickly and combines evenly with the meat. Parboiling the rice beforehand helps it finish cooking evenly with the remaining ingredients. Serve the dish hot, with the sauce from the bottom of the baking dish.
Ingredients
Servings: 6
500 g ground pork and beef
300 g white cabbage
100 g uncooked rice
300 ml tomato passata
200 ml water
1 onion
1 teaspoon marjoram
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon freshly ground pepper
Steps
Preheat the oven to 180°C using a conventional oven with no fan. Add the rice to boiling water and cook for 5 minutes, then drain. Finely chop the cabbage and onion.
Mix the meat with the parboiled rice, cabbage, onion, marjoram, salt, and pepper. Spread the mixture in an even layer in a baking dish measuring approximately 24 × 30 cm.
Mix the tomato passata with 200 ml water and pour it evenly over the meat and cabbage mixture. Tightly cover the dish with a lid or aluminum foil.
Bake on the middle rack for 35 minutes, covered, then uncover and bake for a further 10 minutes, until the cabbage is tender, the rice is fully cooked, and the meat is no longer pink in the center.
Divide the bake into six equal portions and serve with the sauce from the bottom of the dish.
