About this recipe
Grochówka with smoked bacon is a thick soup made with split peas, smoked bacon, potatoes, and carrots. The peas naturally thicken the soup as they cook, while the bacon gives it a deeper, smoky flavor. The potatoes make the soup more filling, and the carrots add gentle sweetness. This classic soup makes a hearty lunch and tastes best when the peas are tender and the broth has developed the full aroma of the smoked bacon.
Ingredients
Servings: 6
250 g split peas
250 g smoked bacon
2 carrots
2 potatoes
1.5 L water
Steps
Rinse the split peas in a sieve, dice the potatoes and carrots, and prepare the smoked bacon to add to the soup.
Heat the bacon in a pot for 4–5 minutes, until some of its fat has rendered and it becomes fragrant.
Add the rinsed peas, pour in 1.5 L water, and simmer over low heat for 35–45 minutes.
Add the carrots and potatoes. Cook for another 15–20 minutes, until the vegetables are tender and the peas naturally thicken the soup; add a little hot water if needed.
