About this recipe

Vegetable grochówka is a filling soup made with vegetable broth, split peas, carrots, potatoes, and onion. As the peas cook, they naturally thicken the soup and give it a hearty, homemade texture. The potatoes make it more filling, the carrots add gentle sweetness, and the onion builds a simple savory base. It is a substantial meatless soup made from basic ingredients.

Ingredients

Servings: 6

  • 250 g split peas

  • 2 carrots

  • 2 potatoes

  • 1 onion

  • 1.5 L vegetable broth

Steps

  1. Rinse the split peas in a sieve, dice the potatoes and carrots, and chop the onion for the soup base.

  2. Heat the onion for 4 minutes in about 50 ml of the 1.5 L broth, until softened.

  3. Add the split peas, pour in the remaining broth, and cook over low heat for 35–45 minutes.

  4. Add the carrots and potatoes. Cook for another 15–20 minutes, until the vegetables and peas are tender, then let the soup stand for 5 minutes to thicken slightly.
