About this recipe
This łazanki dish with spring cabbage, mushrooms, and dill is a simple, filling skillet meal for a quick family dinner. Tender cabbage, browned mushrooms, and fresh dill come together with łazanki pasta in a classic Polish comfort-food dish that is best served straight from the pan. It is inexpensive and easy to prepare, without complicated ingredients or a long stint at the stove.
Ingredients
Servings: 4
Pasta and Vegetables
250 g łazanki (small square pasta)
400 g spring cabbage, finely shredded
300 g button mushrooms, sliced
1 medium onion, finely chopped
2 garlic cloves, finely chopped
2 tablespoons canola oil
1 tablespoon butter
100 ml water
Seasonings and Finishing
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1 teaspoon marjoram
2 tablespoons chopped fresh dill
Steps
Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and cook the łazanki until al dente according to the package directions, usually 8–10 minutes. Drain well in a colander.
Heat the canola oil and butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the onion and cook for 3–4 minutes, stirring, until soft and translucent without letting it burn.
Add the spring cabbage, water, salt, pepper, and marjoram. Stir, cover, and cook over medium heat for 8–10 minutes, until the cabbage is tender but still slightly firm. If the liquid evaporates too quickly, add 2–3 tablespoons water.
Remove the skillet from the heat and stir in the dill. Taste, add a little more salt or pepper if needed, and serve the dish immediately while hot.
