About this recipe

Penne with tuna and olives is a quick dinner built around pasta, tomato passata, and flavorful pantry staples. Tuna packed in water makes the dish filling, olives add a salty, slightly Mediterranean note, and onion rounds out the simple tomato sauce. Add the tuna near the end so it warms through without breaking apart completely in the tomato passata. Cook the penne al dente because it will soften slightly when tossed with the hot sauce. Serve immediately, while the sauce coats the pasta evenly and the olives still stand out.

Ingredients

Servings: 4

  • 250 g penne pasta

  • 1 can tuna packed in water

  • 50 g olives

  • 300 ml tomato passata

  • 1 onion

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil (about 12 g)

Steps

  1. Cook the pasta according to the package instructions, usually 8–10 minutes.

  2. Heat the olive oil in a skillet and cook the onion for 3–4 minutes. Add the olives and tomato passata, then simmer the sauce over low heat for 6–8 minutes.

  3. Add the drained tuna and heat for 1–2 minutes, just until combined with the sauce.

  4. Combine everything with the pasta and toss until the sauce coats it evenly.

  5. Serve immediately after tossing the pasta with the sauce, while the tuna is just heated through and the flavor of the olives is still distinct in the tomato sauce.
