About this recipe

Pear and walnut oatmeal is a warm, satisfying breakfast with a mild, gently spiced flavor. Pear adds juiciness and natural sweetness, cinnamon deepens its aroma, and walnuts add crunch to the creamy oats. Simmer the oats slowly in milk until tender and nicely thickened. Add the honey toward the end, once you can judge how sweet the pear is. Serve right away with the chopped walnuts scattered on top.

Ingredients

Servings: 1

  • 80 g rolled oats

  • 250 ml milk

  • 1 pear

  • a pinch of salt

  • 1 teaspoon butter

  • 2 tablespoons chopped walnuts

  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

  • 1 teaspoon honey

Steps

  1. Dice the pear and coarsely chop the walnuts.

  2. Heat the milk with the salt and butter until the butter melts, then add the rolled oats and stir.

  3. Cook for 4–5 minutes, until the oats are tender and the mixture is thick but still creamy before you add the pear, cinnamon, and honey.

  4. Add the pear, cinnamon, and honey. Cook for another 1–2 minutes, then sprinkle with the walnuts.

  5. Serve the oatmeal as soon as the walnuts are added so the pear stays tender and the walnuts retain their crunch.
