About this recipe

Plum oatmeal with sunflower seeds is a simple, warm breakfast with fruity flavor and gentle spice. Oats cooked in milk form a mild base, the plum adds juiciness, and cinnamon highlights its natural sweetness. Sunflower seeds add crunch and make the oatmeal more interesting to eat. If the plum is very tart, a little maple syrup balances the flavor. Serve warm, preferably right after cooking.

Ingredients

Servings: 1

  • 80 g rolled oats

  • 250 ml milk

  • 1 plum

  • a pinch of salt

  • 1 teaspoon butter

  • 1 tablespoon sunflower seeds

  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

  • 1 teaspoon maple syrup

Steps

  1. Cut the plum into thin wedges.

  2. Heat the milk with the salt and butter until it begins to steam gently, then add the rolled oats and stir well.

  3. Cook for 4–5 minutes, stirring often, until the oatmeal is thick enough that the plum will not make it too loose.

  4. Add the plum, cinnamon, and maple syrup. Cook for another 1–2 minutes, then sprinkle with the sunflower seeds.

  5. Transfer the oatmeal to a bowl and serve while the plum is slightly softened and the sunflower seeds are still crunchy.
