About this recipe

This rice pudding with cherries is a creamy dessert made with tender rice, milk, cinnamon, and tart fruit. Rice simmered slowly in milk becomes soft, thick, and creamy, while cherries add color and a fresher flavor. Cinnamon provides a warm dessert note without overpowering the fruit. Add the cherries near the end or spoon them over the top so they remain distinct.

Ingredients

Servings: 4

  • 100 g short-grain dessert rice

  • 500 ml milk

  • 120 g cherries

  • 1 teaspoon sugar

  • a pinch of cinnamon

Steps

  1. Rinse the rice, add it to the milk, and cook uncovered over low heat for 18–20 minutes.

  2. Stir regularly until the dessert is creamy but the grains are still noticeable.

  3. Add the sugar and cinnamon near the end of cooking, when the rice is almost tender.

  4. Transfer to bowls and add the cherries near the end or on top.

  5. Serve warm or after it has cooled, when the cherries release a little juice.
