About this recipe

Hot cocoa with milk is a warm drink made with milk, cocoa powder, sugar, cinnamon, and vanilla for a simple chocolate flavor. Cocoa provides the main flavor, milk mellows it, and cinnamon and vanilla add a warm aroma without changing the drink’s classic character. Mix the sugar with the cocoa before the milk gets very hot so the drink stays smooth and lump-free. Serve hot, when the spices are most noticeable.

Ingredients

Servings: 1

  • 300 ml milk

  • 2 teaspoons cocoa powder

  • 1 teaspoon sugar

  • a pinch of cinnamon

  • a pinch of vanilla

Steps

  1. Pour the milk into a saucepan and heat over low heat until warm but not boiling. Set aside a few tablespoons of the milk to mix with the cocoa and sugar.

  2. Thoroughly mix the cocoa and sugar into a few tablespoons of warm milk. Only then combine this mixture with the remaining milk, cinnamon, and vanilla.

  3. Heat over low heat, whisking, until the cocoa is smooth and hot. Do not boil vigorously, as the milk may lose its delicate flavor.

  4. Pour the cocoa into a mug immediately after heating. Stir before serving so the vanilla and cinnamon are evenly distributed throughout the drink.
