About this recipe

Coconut hot cocoa is a plant-based drink made with coconut milk beverage, cocoa powder, maple syrup, vanilla, and cinnamon. The coconut milk beverage provides gentle sweetness and a light coconut aroma, cocoa powder creates a chocolate base, and maple syrup mellows its bitterness. Vanilla and cinnamon round out the flavor without the need for cow's milk. This is a good recipe for warm coconut hot cocoa that remains simple but has a more dessert-like character than cocoa made with water.

Ingredients

Servings: 2

  • 300 ml coconut milk beverage

  • 2 teaspoons cocoa powder

  • 1 teaspoon maple syrup

  • a pinch of vanilla

  • a pinch of cinnamon

Steps

  1. Pour 300 ml of coconut milk beverage into a saucepan and heat over low heat.

  2. Mix the cocoa powder into some of the warm coconut milk beverage, then add the maple syrup, vanilla, and cinnamon. Stir until the base is evenly cocoa-colored.

  3. Pour the mixture into the remaining coconut milk beverage and heat over low heat. Do not let it come to a vigorous boil, so the coconut flavor remains mild.

  4. Serve hot after stirring briefly. If the cocoa powder or cinnamon begins to settle, stir the drink again just before drinking.
