About this recipe

Ginger and orange tea combines black tea, fresh ginger, orange slices, and honey. Ginger adds a distinct, mildly spicy note, orange contributes a citrus aroma, and honey rounds out the flavor without making the drink syrupy. Steep the tea briefly, then leave the ginger and orange in only until they release their aroma. This warm, aromatic drink has a simple ingredient list and a distinct citrus-and-ginger character.

Ingredients

Servings: 2

  • 500 ml water

  • 2 orange slices

  • a piece of fresh ginger about 2 cm long

  • 1 teaspoon honey

  • 1 black tea bag

Steps

  1. Bring the water to a boil and let it stand for one minute. Peel the ginger, then either slice it thinly or grate it finely. Slice the orange.

  2. Steep the black tea for 3–4 minutes, then remove the tea bag. Add the ginger and orange slices to the hot tea.

  3. Let the tea stand for 2–3 minutes so the ginger releases its spicy aroma and the orange its citrus scent. If the ginger is grated, you can strain the tea.

  4. When the tea has cooled slightly, add the honey and stir. Serve right away, before the orange peel starts to add too much bitterness.
