About this recipe
Baked kotlety mielone (Polish meat patties) with beets are a classic home-style dinner made with ground pork and beef, egg, a soaked bread roll, potatoes, and cooked beets. Baking the patties eliminates the need to watch a skillet constantly, while the beets add sweetness and a vegetable contrast. The potatoes are a simple, filling side that turns the dish into a complete meal. Choose this slightly lighter baked method when you want to serve traditional kotlety mielone.
Ingredients
Servings: 5
500 g ground pork and beef
1 egg
1 bread roll
100 ml water
1 tablespoon canola oil
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon freshly ground pepper
400 g cooked beets
500 g potatoes
Steps
Preheat the oven to 190°C using a conventional oven with no fan. Peel the potatoes and cook for 18–22 minutes from the time the water comes to a boil, until tender. Warm the beets over low heat for 2–3 minutes just before serving.
Pour 100 ml water over the bread roll and let stand for 5 minutes, then squeeze it out thoroughly. Combine it with the meat, egg, salt, and pepper, then briefly knead the mixture.
Shape into five equal patties. Arrange them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and brush both sides with oil.
Bake on the middle rack for 22–25 minutes, turning the patties after 12 minutes. The center must not be pink when cut open.
Serve one patty each with one-fifth of the potatoes and beets.
