About this recipe

Mushroom and cheese toasts are a warm snack made with baguette, sautéed button mushrooms, onion, butter, and cheese. Cook the mushrooms until their liquid evaporates so the filling has a deeper flavor and does not make the bread soggy. Onion adds sweetness, butter deepens the mushroom flavor, and the melted cheese melds the filling with the crisp baguette. Serve the toasts right away, while the bread is still crisp and the cheese is soft. This simple mushroom-toast recipe works well for dinner, a gathering, or a quick warm snack.

Ingredients

Servings: 4

  • 1 baguette

  • 200 g button mushrooms

  • 60 g cheese

  • 1 onion

  • 1 tablespoon butter

Steps

  1. Finely chop the button mushrooms and onion.

  2. Melt the butter in a skillet. Cook the onion for 3 minutes, add the button mushrooms, and cook for another 6–8 minutes over medium-high heat, until the liquid has evaporated and the mushrooms are lightly browned.

  3. Preheat a conventional oven (no fan) to 200°C. Place the baguette on a baking sheet and toast for 4 minutes, then top with the mushroom filling and sprinkle with grated cheese.

  4. Bake the toasts on the middle rack for another 4–6 minutes, until the cheese has completely melted and the edges of the bread are browned. Serve immediately.
