About this recipe
Fasolowa is a thick, home-style soup made with Jaś beans, potatoes, carrot, and onion. The potatoes add softness and give the broth more body, while the beans provide a hearty base. Marjoram pairs well with the beans and gives the soup its classic, gently herbal aroma. This simple fasolowa keeps the focus on well-cooked ingredients without unnecessary additions.
Ingredients
Servings: 4
250 g dried Jaś beans (large Polish white beans)
3 potatoes
1 onion
1 carrot
1 teaspoon marjoram
1.5 L water
Steps
Soak the beans overnight and drain them. Dice the potatoes and carrot, and finely chop the onion.
Cook the onion in a pot for 4 minutes with 3 tablespoons taken from the 1.5 L water.
Add the beans, pour in the remaining water, and simmer over low heat for 35–45 minutes, until the beans are almost tender.
Add the potatoes and carrot. Cook for another 15–20 minutes, until the vegetables and beans are tender but the potatoes remain intact.
Rub the marjoram between your palms, add it to the soup, cook for 2 minutes, and let the pot stand for 3 minutes before serving.
