About this recipe

Baked apple French toast is a sweet breakfast made with challah, eggs, milk, and apple. The challah absorbs the egg-and-milk mixture, becoming tender inside and lightly browned on top as it bakes. Apple adds fresh fruit flavor and gentle sweetness that complements the buttery bread. Arrange the challah pieces snugly and press them down lightly after adding the custard so they soak evenly. Serve warm after a brief rest.

Ingredients

Servings: 2

  • 4 slices challah

  • 2 eggs

  • 200 ml milk

  • 1 apple

Steps

  1. Cut the challah into thick pieces and the apple into thin slices or cubes.

  2. Whisk the eggs with the milk and pour the mixture over the bread arranged in a baking dish.

  3. Arrange the apple on top and press lightly so some pieces settle between the challah.

  4. Bake for 25–30 minutes at 180°C, until the custard is set and the top is lightly browned.
