About this recipe
These breakfast waffles pair crisp edges with mild twaróg and fresh strawberries. Twaróg gives both the batter and the finished waffles a gentle creaminess, while the strawberries bring a bright, fresh contrast. Cook the batter in a thoroughly preheated waffle maker, and do not open it too soon or the waffles may tear in the middle. Set each finished waffle on a wire rack to help the edges stay crisp. If you like a sweeter breakfast, use the optional teaspoon of honey or maple syrup.
Ingredients
Servings: 2
Batter
180 g all-purpose flour
1.5 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
200 ml milk
1 egg
80 g twaróg (Polish farmer’s cheese)
1 tablespoon oil
For Serving
150 g strawberries
optional: 1 teaspoon honey or maple syrup
Steps
In one bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, and salt. In another, whisk together the milk, egg, and oil, then work in the twaróg until evenly distributed. Add the dry ingredients and mix briefly, just until no dry flour remains. Let the batter rest for 5 minutes.
Thoroughly preheat the waffle maker according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
Add portions of batter and cook each for 4–5 minutes, without opening the waffle maker during the first 3 minutes. The waffles are ready when they are golden brown, release easily from the plates, and the escaping steam has noticeably subsided. Place them one at a time on a wire rack.
Cut the strawberries into pieces and serve them with the warm waffles. Optionally, drizzle each serving with half a teaspoon of honey or maple syrup.
