About this recipe

White bean spread with garlic and lemon is a simple, satisfying topping for bread made from just a few ingredients. White beans provide a creamy base, garlic adds bold flavor, and lemon juice brightens the mixture with fresh acidity. Olive oil makes the texture smoother and easier to spread. Add the seasoning gradually, especially if the canned beans are already salted. Serve with toast, fresh bread, cucumber, tomato, or parsley.

Ingredients

Servings: 4

  • 1 can white beans

  • 1 garlic clove

  • juice of 1/2 lemon

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

  • 4 slices bread

  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

  • a pinch of black pepper

Steps

  1. Drain and rinse the white beans, then finely chop the garlic or press it through a garlic press.

  2. Mash the beans with the garlic, lemon juice, and olive oil into a slightly chunky spread.

  3. Taste and season with salt and pepper; if the spread is too thick, add 1–2 tablespoons water.

  4. Spread it on bread or serve it as a dip for vegetables.
