About this recipe

Classic brownies are simple, intensely chocolatey bars made with dairy-free dark chocolate, plant-based butter, eggs, sugar, and all-purpose flour. The ingredient list is short, but watch the baking time so the center remains slightly moist. Melt the chocolate slowly and let it cool before combining it with the eggs for a smooth batter. The brownies firm up as they cool, making them easier to cut into even pieces.

Ingredients

Servings: 8

  • 150 g dairy-free dark chocolate

  • 120 g plant-based butter

  • 2 eggs

  • 100 g sugar

  • 80 g all-purpose flour

Steps

  1. Melt the dairy-free dark chocolate and plant-based butter slowly in a double boiler or over very low heat, then let the mixture cool.

  2. Mix the eggs with the sugar just until combined; the mixture does not need to be fluffy.

  3. Add the cooled chocolate to the eggs, then fold in the flour last using brief strokes.

  4. Transfer the chocolate batter to a parchment-lined pan measuring about 20 × 20 cm and smooth the top with a spatula.

  5. Bake the classic brownies at 170°C for 22–28 minutes. The edges should be set, and a toothpick inserted in the center should come out with moist crumbs but no liquid batter.

  6. Wait until the brownies are completely cool before cutting, when the center has set to a firm, moist texture.
