About this recipe

Apple kompot is a classic homemade drink made with apples, water, sugar, cinnamon, and cloves. The apples bring gentle sweetness and a light fruit aroma, while the cinnamon and cloves add warm, aromatic depth. Cut the fruit into fairly large pieces so it releases its flavor without falling apart completely as it cooks. Serve the kompot warm or chilled, with pieces of apple or strained.

Ingredients

Servings: 6

  • 4 apples

  • 1.5 liters water

  • 1 small piece of cinnamon stick

  • 1 tablespoon sugar

  • a few cloves

Steps

  1. Wash the apples, remove the cores, and cut the fruit into larger pieces. You can leave the peel on if the apples are fresh and do not have a hard, waxed surface.

  2. Pour the water into a pot and add the sugar, cinnamon stick, and cloves. Bring to a boil so the spices begin to release their aroma before adding the fruit.

  3. Add the apples and cook over low heat for 10–12 minutes. The fruit should soften but does not need to completely fall apart.

  4. Remove the kompot from the heat and let it stand for a few minutes so the apples and spices deepen the drink's flavor. Serve with the fruit, or strain it if you prefer a lighter kompot.
