About this recipe

Pear kompot is a mild, aromatic drink made by simmering pears with sugar, cinnamon, and cloves. The pears contribute delicate sweetness and a gentle fruit flavor, while the warm spices add depth without overpowering them. Simmer the kompot gently, only until the pears soften and flavor the water. Serve it with pieces of pear, or let it stand briefly and strain it.

Ingredients

Servings: 4

  • 4 pears

  • 1.5 liters water

  • 1 tablespoon sugar

  • a small piece of cinnamon stick

  • 2 cloves

Steps

  1. Wash the pears, cut them into quarters, and remove the cores. If the peel is thin, leave it on, as it helps keep the fruit pieces intact.

  2. Bring the water to a boil with the sugar, cinnamon stick, and cloves. Add the pears only once the water is hot so they do not break down too quickly.

  3. Simmer over low heat for 10–12 minutes, until the pears are tender but still retain their shape. If using very ripe fruit, shorten the cooking time by a few minutes.

  4. Let the kompot stand briefly so the cinnamon and cloves contribute more flavor. Serve it warm with pieces of pear, or strain and chill it well.
