About this recipe

Black currant iced tea is a bold drink made with black tea, black currants, honey, and ice. Black currants provide deep color, a tart flavor, and an intense aroma that balances the tea’s astringency. Honey softens the tart fruit but should not completely mask its character. This drink works well for anyone who prefers iced tea with a more pronounced fruit profile.

Ingredients

Servings: 4

  • 2 black tea bags

  • 150 g black currants

  • 800 ml water

  • 1 tablespoon honey

  • ice cubes

Steps

  1. Steep the black tea for 3–4 minutes, then remove the tea bags. Let the tea cool slightly before combining it with the currants.

  2. Rinse the black currants, remove the stems, and lightly crush them with the honey. This helps them release their color and tart juice more quickly.

  3. Combine the currants with the tea and chill the drink for 30–45 minutes. If you do not want seeds and skins in the glass, strain the base after chilling.

  4. Serve with ice cubes. Taste before serving, as the currants may be very tart even after adding the honey.
