About this recipe

Grapefruit iced tea is a citrus drink made with black tea, grapefruit, honey, and ice. Grapefruit gives it a tart, slightly bitter flavor, so squeeze the juice gently and avoid squeezing the bitter white pith and membranes. Black tea suits this profile because it provides a stronger base than green tea. This is a good option when you want a fresh, more assertive iced tea that is not overtly sweet.

Ingredients

Servings: 4

  • 2 black tea bags

  • 1/2 grapefruit

  • 800 ml water

  • 1 tablespoon honey

  • ice cubes

Steps

  1. Steep the black tea for 3–4 minutes, remove the tea bags, and set the tea aside to cool.

  2. Peel the grapefruit, or cut it in half and squeeze out the juice, taking care to avoid the seeds and bitter white pith. You can reserve a few thin segments for the pitcher.

  3. Mix the cooled tea with the honey and grapefruit. Chill for 30–45 minutes so the citrus flavor blends with the tea.

  4. Serve with ice cubes. If the grapefruit releases too much bitterness, remove the fruit segments before longer storage.
