About this recipe
Mini mozzarella calzones are baked pizza-dough snacks filled with tomato passata, mushrooms, oregano, and melted cheese. Ready-made dough makes it quick to prepare small pizza turnovers without kneading or a long rise. Tomato passata provides a simple tomato base, mushrooms add savory flavor, and the mozzarella becomes soft and stretchy after baking. Seal the edges thoroughly so the filling does not leak out during baking. This recipe works well for a warm snack, a light meal, or small calzones served straight from the oven.
Ingredients
Servings: 2
1 portion of ready-made pizza dough
120 g mozzarella
150 ml tomato passata
4 button mushrooms
a pinch of oregano
Steps
Preheat a conventional oven (no fan) to 220°C and position a rack in the middle. Thinly slice the button mushrooms and cook them in a well-heated dry skillet for 5–7 minutes, until all visible liquid has evaporated; then let cool. Divide the dough into equal rounds.
Spread a thin layer of tomato passata over one half of each round, arrange the cooked button mushrooms and mozzarella on top, and sprinkle with oregano, leaving about a 1.5 cm border.
Fold the dough in half, press out any excess air, and seal the edges thoroughly.
Bake for 12–15 minutes on a parchment-lined baking sheet, until the dough is well browned, including underneath, and the filling is hot.
